Satoshi Tanaka received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in applied physics from Hokkaido University (Sapporo, Japan). From 1989 to 1998, he was with Department of Engineering Science, Hokkaido University as a Research Associate, where he was involved in research on fiber-optic interferometric sensors.
